The Modern Holiday Table: Canvas Home
It's that time of year when entertaining can sometimes feel like a competitive sport. Fret not! Your seasonal style doesn't' have to be complicated, it can be clean...timeless....something that feels welcoming and not fussy.
Snow flake and Christmas tree china don't always hit the mark, so this year let's look into creating a modern holiday table filled with natural textures, organic lines and dinnerware that you'll be excited to pull out and use not only throughout December, but all winter long.
I've partnered with Canvas Home (one of my favorite online shops for gift giving) to inspire a few different ways to incorporate unexpected pops of holiday into a simple, well balanced style. And what better blank canvas to start with than the Abbesses dinnerware line.
I mean...talk about dining by design. These are so WOW!
This dinnerware set needs little to no styling or add-ons due to it's delicate hand painted rim.
Where you could easily lean towards white linens, lace and other dainty pieces to accompany these charming dishes, I decided to throw in some rugged texture to allow the plates to pop off of the table and create a bit of warmth in the name of seasons greetings.
The texture in the cowhide coasters and french linen stripe napkins are the perfect compliment to the smooth lines of plates and dipped flatware.
Together, this stunning place setting gets topped with a simple bundle of cider and eucalyptus pods tied with green twine for a holiday table that is instantly flawless without fuss.
Perhaps you want to add a little more glitz to your dining table?
I love how the Abbesses dinnerware can act as a shape shifter and work with all kinds of color palettes. How about mixing up a collection of copper & brass on the table this year? The mix of warmer metallics allows the plates to pop with a mixed selection of metal spice bowls, chargers & flatware.
Keeping things simple and not to over complicate the place setting's glow - try adding a rosemary bouquet with small pinecones and a gold ribbon as a sophisticated sprig of life to an otherwise hard edged setting.
Looking for something a little more hearty - perhaps for your Christmas morning breakfast? Why not change up your table with a splash of red tinware?
Campy goes chic with the pairing of black iron trays, moody hand thrown ceramics and onyx flatware. I think the French Stonewashed linen napkins might be a new favorite. Gorgeous color with a hint of texture that brings a casual, yet polished, comfort to the setting.
Maybe you're looking to get a little more cozy? Swap out the dark pieces with raw wood, multi-glazed ceramics and mid century eclectic flatware for a touch of a more casual rustic elegance.
Voilà! Two types of classic place settings styled two ways and each filled with delicious personality. Are you ready to experiment with some new modern (yet classic!) staples on your holiday table along side some unexpected texture?!
