DIY: Two Harvest Centerpieces For Autumn
This post is in partnership with Tuesday Morning. Thank you for supporting our work with quality brands!
Fall is in full swing… and yet we’re having another heatwave out here in Southern California! Dear weather man, can a girl please get a sweater day!? I am so ready for the cozy. Needless to say we might need a little nudge to get into the Autumnal spirit around these parts, luckily a little harvest decor can do the trick.
I’m a big fan of changing up my dining table centerpiece. Be it seasonal, holiday or just a Wednesday…there’s something really lovely about freshening up a space by just making a few little changes. This year I’m getting my DIY on thanks to a trip to my one-stop destination for fall décor - Tuesday Morning. And if you’re not in the mood to break out the glue gun, don’t worry…they’ve got tons of ready to use decor items that will bring on the autumn vibes in a snap!
This fall I wanted two options to use around the house, first a modern minimalist Autumn Terrarium that’s a little funky casual and could live anywhere from the kitchen table to the fireplace mantel or even a vignette on my entry console. Secondly a Scandinavian inspired harvest wreath that can be used for everyday autumn cheer on your walls or front door and then gussied up for Thanksgiving entertaining as a centerpiece. Gotta love decor that works double duty, right!?
The great thing about shopping for supplies at Tuesday Morning is all the different categories you can pull inspiration from. For the terrarium, I used oversized kitchen storage jars and for the harvest wreath I repurposed elements from the holiday decor section like seasonal potpourri and garland …not to mention their crafting section to stock up on a few items that will make getting your piece put together with ease. Did I mention everything is really high quality at a great price? Win Win…especially when your plan is to deconstruct a garland and repurpose those pumpkins for other things. So don’t be afraid to gather up decor items that you can break apart, transform and create new from! I even made “dried flowers” from potpourri bits…so the sky is the limit!
Now, let’s get that glue gun fired up and get crafty…

I really was gravitated to natural elements and warm neutral colors for this terrarium and used a mix of seed pods, dried flowers, faux leaves and small pumpkin elements. When building your scene you want to keep things simple and not overwhelm the vessel, I found that organizing each of the different elements into bowls helped me figure out what my final look would be. It can be a little intimidating when working with a bag of mixed goodies, so take the time to get supplies in check.
Different heights inside make a terrarium interesting. In order to make branch-like structures I glued individual flower and seed pods from a seasonal basket decor mix (you know those bags of bits and bops you always see in stores that look like chunky nature potpourri) to floral wires and stuck them into a floral frog placed in the bottom of the container and hidden by larger elements. This little DIY hack really gave a whimsical feeling and allowed me to customize each detail and placement.
A tiny bit of colored sand or pebbles give this look some grounding and they look great when paired in multiples at differing heights. Depending on your vessel of choice, you might need to break out the long tweezers or tongs. These help you nudge items into place without making too much of a mess.
This look could easily be transformed each season for something new...by simply swapping out seed pods for pinecones you’re already on your way to winter! Try styling this with some wood chargers or cake stands to off-set multiple terrariums into an intentional layered and uniquely styled grouping.

I typically only break out the wreaths for Christmas, but when I saw the selection of harvest garland with a muted pumpkin and leaf palette, I was inspired to make something unique for the season. Using a mix of dried natural elements such as grasses, flowers and seed pods, I combined them with faux leaves and gourds for a playful yet refined look. Keeping to a cohesive color scheme makes this mix and match of real and faux look intentional and not tacky.
By using a brass hoop, it gives the wreath a chic glimmer of glam that feels unexpected paired with such natural elements. I suggest making multiple in different sizes which looks stunning when grouped together on a wall but dynamite when layered flat on the table. These wreaths become a stunning centerpiece when illuminated with pillar candles of many heights.
This look definitely is a modern spin on the traditional centerpiece….bonus points, it lasts forever or can easily be changed up each year for a new look or color palette. When sourcing supplies, think outside of their intended use and don’t be afraid to break out the scissors to deconstruct and rebuild it to your liking.
Well there you have it! A little fall pop in the midst of a 90 degree week. I have to admit, I might crank up the air conditioning, put on a sweater and light a fire because these looks have definitely gotten me into the mood! Are you feeling inspired to deck the halls harvest style?!
