You Got Served: Laura Clausen, Dish Wish
“
” is a
where three individuals (bloggers, stylists and/or tastemakers) are picked to exemplify their own unique styles by sourcing and photographing a table setting using the same box of mystery props.
There is a seriously stylish prop rental company hiding behind a garage door on a quiet street of El Segundo, CA. As in...HUBBA HUBBA what on earth is this treasure trove of goodness and how can I sneak it all back to my place!? The collection is endless, perfectly organized...and parts of it have pretty much made an appearance at every fab wedding of note mentioned on the wedding blog-sphere.
Laura Clausen is a business genius, turning her love of the hunt into a real deal business - supplying a mix match of glam style to the masses. There was no question that she would be an expert at putting a table together on the fly, and she didn't even bat an eyelash when she had to pull from the mystery prop box as well (I suppose it helps with you have a ROOM filled with glorious glassware to go along with it).
Let's just say the outcome was...perfection. Not to mention an inspiration for all the remainder of our summer entertaining.

You Got Served: The Rules
~Subject must choose and work with at least two items and one textile from the mystery box
~Location and surface area up to the discretion of the subject
~One additional textile, prop, and food/botanicals can be selected from the subject’s private collection
Do you have a routine or game plan when it comes to styling with props for your photos?
Sadly, nothing in my life is the least bit routine which is why I am always running around with chipped nail polish swearing I’m going to go to the gym that day! For me I need an anchor or a couple strong influential pieces that I either love or have to work with then I play. I think any stylist is afraid of not having options or enough options so you bring way too much and then you edit. Sometimes all is won or lost in the editing. Oh gosh I hope my explosions for this aren’t proving the later of that statement!
What's your Serving Style? Brand new/on trend, unique vintage originals, particular colors?
I am a huge fan of Emily Henderson (interior designer). I am convinced that we would be awesome buddies. Like her I believe in mixing it all together. If you have all vintage it can look like granny’s garage sale but all new/ on trend looks so sterile. I have hilariously polar opposite styles. My dream would be to have individual little huts I could decorate with all my completely unique tangents I love! My personal space is so much a part of my own mind so its always evolving.
I am possibly the most sentimental person ever, so the common thread in everything I style is most definitely incorporating something meaningful to me in every look. It could be something literal or symbolic or just something that sparks wonderful joy. With the couples we work with in Dish Wish I like to have them talk about the feelings they want the guests to be experiencing while they are around the table. What are the sounds, the smells the tactile elements? Its then that we really find a way to create the magic!
Do you have a favorite piece in your collection? What's the story behind it?
I am currently loving Hostess Haven’s linen collection and think its such a great way to add something beautiful and vintage-esque while staying on trend. I am really digging warm colors of nature, greenery and some pops of blue, emerald or orange.
If you could get a hold of any item for your kitchen or tabletop, what do you currently have your eye on?
I would LOVE to have true copper flatware that you didn’t have to ever polish! One could dream right? I would also love to have real marble plates that weighed nothing so I could cart them around without a hassle.
If you could express your personal style in 3 emojis, what would they be?
I don’t know how to do this in word but the one with the hands up, the hearts that circle around and the happy face with the hearts for eyes.
How much do you love this tablescape Laura put together!? Swoon baby swoon. I'm forever using my backyard as a fresh plant placemat option and will probably be looking for vintage gilded glassware half as cool as hers for the rest of my life. If only my prop closet was this big, I could seriously play in her studio ALL DAY LONG...the plate layering combos alone....ahhhhh!
